Biographie :

Jan Caeyers a été le directeur artistique de la Beethoven Académie (Anvers). A la tête de cet orchestre il s’est produit dans des salles européennes les plus prestigieuses, en compagnie de grands solistes tels que Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Augustin Dumay, Julia Hamari, Gundula Janowitz, Micha Maisky, Edda Moser, Maria João Pires, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Heinrich Schiff, Christian Zacharias and Thomas Zehetmair. En tant que chef invité, il dirige notamment le Rundfunkorchester Berlin, l’Orchestre de l’Opéra de Stuttgart, l’Orquesta Sinfonica de Madrid, l’Orchestra della Toscana à Florence, l’Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, l’Orchestre de Brno, le Real Filharmonia de Galicia, l’Orchestre du Conservatoire de Paris. Il a également dirigé des oratorios à la tête du Chœur Arnold Schönberg de Vienne et du Nederlands Kamerkoor. En juin 1998, il dirige avec le plus grand succès pour la première fois l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Flandres qui l’invite immédiatement pour une série de productions les saisons suivantes, dont « Faust » de Gounod en juin 2000. La saison dernière, il a dirigé la Flûte Enchantée à l’Opéra de Stuttgart où il est réinvité pour les saison à venir. Il a enregistré des œuvres de Beethoven, Nielsen et Krommer pour Harmonia Mundi, des symphonies de Haydn pour Voice of Lyrics et une œuvre inconnue de Reicha pour Auvidis. De 1994 à 1997, Jan Caeyers est assistant de Claudio Abbado pour l’Orchestre des Jeunes Gustav Mahler. Il a aussi travaillé étroitement avec Bernard Haitink et Pierre Boulez. En novembre 1996, il a dirigé la tournée du Mahler Chamber Orcherstra en Allemagne et en Italie à l’occasion de la création de l’Orchestre. Jan Caeyers enseigne l’analyse musicale à l’Université de Louvain depuis 1985. Il est considéré comme l’un des grands spécialistes de la musique de Beethoven en Europe. Jan Caeyers was from 1993 till 2003 the artistic director of the Beethoven Academie (Antwerp). He has conducted concerts in the leading concert halls of Europe, with famous soloists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Augustin Dumay, Julia Hamari, Gundula Janowitz, Micha Maisky, Edda Moser, Maria João Pires, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Heinrich Schiff, Christian Zacharias and Thomas Zehetmair. He has been a guest conductor for the Rundfunkorchester Berlin, the Stuttgart Opera Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfonica of Madrid, the Orchestra della Toscana of Firenze, the Orchestre du Conservatoire de Paris, the Czech Orchestra of Brno, the Orquestra Ciudad de Granada and the Real Filharmonia de Galicia. He also conducted oratorio projects with the Arnold Schönberg-choir of Vienna and the Nederlands Kamerkoor. In 1998 he made a successful debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, which invited him to take part in a number of productions the following seasons, including the concertante performance of Gounod's Faust. Last season he conducted a Magic Flute production at the Stuttgart Opera, where he is invited as a regular guest conductor for the next seasons. He has worked on recordings of the works of Beethoven, Nielsen and Krommer for Harmonia Mundi France. He also recorded symphonies by Haydn (Voice of Lyrics) and an unknown work by Reicha (Avidis). From 1994 to 1997 Jan Caeyers assisted Claudio Abbado at the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester. He also worked closely with Bernard Haitink and Pierre Boulez. Finally, Jan Caeyers conducted the Gustav Mahler Chamber Orchestra's inaugural tour in Germany and Italy (November 1996). Jan Caeyers, who also lectures in music analysis at the University of Leuven, is currently regarded as one of the leading Beethoven specialists in Europe. His new and important Beethoven-biography will appear in autumn 2008.
