Christian Immler, baryton, est né à Munich où il entre, encore enfant, au Tölzer Knabenchor au sein duquel il enregistre en contralto solo les Cantates 168 et 174 avec Nikolaus Harnoncourt et la Messe en si mineur avec Andrew Parrott. Sa voix ayant mué, il se perfectionne auprès de Rudolf Piernay à la Guildhall School de Londres où il se voit décerner en 1998 le Prix Schubert. En 2001, il remporte le Prix de chant du Concours International de Chant-Piano Nadia et Lili Boulanger, et en 2003 le prix Bernard Plantey au Concours International de Clermont-Ferrand. Christian Immler se produit en concert dans toute l’Europe. Parmi ses derniers engagements : la Passion selon saint Matthieu avec la Philarmonie de Chambre de Brême, sous la baguette de Daniel Harding, la Passion selon saint Jean avec The City of London Sinfonia au Barbican Hall de Londres, les Scènes de Faust de Schumann à Hambourg, Israël en Egypte de Haendel avec Jean-Claude Malgoire ainsi que les Lieder de Schubert orchestrés par Brahms avec l’Orchestre Symphonique de Jerusalem. Christian Immler se produit en récital à l'opéra de Lille, au Yeshiva University Museum de New York, au Purcell Room de Londres et au Linbury Theatre de Covent Garden; il chante en duo avec Françoise Pollet au Festival du Haut-Limousin et enfin à Wigmore Hall et au Royal Festival Hall de Londres dans le cadre de la série des Continental Britons (Lieder de Goldschmidt, Wellesz et Gál). Il a également interprété en récital La Belle Meunière de Schubert, Dichterliebe de Schumann et Le bal masqué de Poulenc. Sur scène, on a pu voir Christian Immler dans Thésée de Lully avec William Christie, dans Arianne à Naxos de Strauss avec l'Orchestre de Picardie ou dans Béatrice et Bénédict de Berlioz à l’Opéra Comique. Parmi ses nombreux projets: David et Jonathas et Te Deum de Charpentier avec les Arts Florissants au Festival de Lucerne et BBC Proms, Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda de Monteverdi à l’opéra de Potsdam, mélodies orchestrés de Ravel avec Pascal Verrot et la Passion selon Saint Matthieu sous la direction de Michel Corboz. Christian Immler a participé à des nombreux enregistrements et est actuellement professeur de chant à Royal Holloway (University of London).

The villain of the piece turned out to be the hero of the day, as bass Christian Immler was called upon at the last minute…. His booming voice made Pilate come to life…. New York Sun – April 2007 German born Christian Immler trained with Rudolf Piernay on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and was a Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music 2000-2002. He won the prestigious International Nadia et Lili Boulanger Competition in Paris in 2001. Christian has worked as a soloist with major orchestras and conductors all over the world. Already in 2008, Christian has sung Mahler Songs with the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, Honegger’s La Danse des Morts with the Swiss Radio Choir in Lugano, Beethoven Cantatas with the Orchestre de Picardie, and the St. John Passion with the Ensemble Vocale de Lausanne. Later in the year Christian will be singing Telemann and Buxtehude at the Casa da Musica in Portugal with Andrew Parrott, Schubert Orchestral Songs with the Ensemble de Basse-Normandie, a concert and recording of the Bach B-Minor Mass in Santiago de Compostela with Marc Minkowski and performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Ensemble Vocale de Lausanne. Future plans include a European tour of the St. John Passion with Trevor Pinnock’s European Brandenburg Ensemble. Concert highlights in 2007 included Pilate/bass solos St. John Passion for Collegium Vocale Gent, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, in London, Bruges and the Lincoln Center in New York, Haydn’s The Seasons with Orchestre de Picardie, Haydn’s Creation with the New Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the Fauré Requiem with the Ensemble Vocale de Lausanne and Pharnaces Der König Kandaules by Zemlinsky at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. 2006 was an equally busy year for Christian and included performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the Gulbenkian in Lisbon conducted by Michel Corboz, the B-Minor Mass for the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Kurt Weill’s Berliner Requiem at the Lucerne Festival, several performances of the Messiah with the Ensemble Vocale de Lausanne, Mozart and Schubert arias with the Orchestre de Picardie and St. John Passion for the Oxford Bach Choir and the London Handel Society. Other important orchestras with whom Christian has been a soloist include Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (Daniel Harding), Les Arts Florissants (William Christie) at the BBC Proms, Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart (Helmut Rilling), Lucerne Symphony Orchestra (John Axelrod), Orchestre de Paris (Marc Soustrot), BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (Osmo Vänskä), Hamburger Symphoniker (Mattias Janz), MDR Rundfunk Orchester (Howard Arman), Balears Simfonica Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra (Leon Botstein), Israel Chamber Orchestra (John Nelson and Christoph Spering), Orquesta Sinfonica de Madrid (José de Eusebio), Prague Philharmonia (Kaspar Zehnder), and the London Mozart Players. Operatic work continues to be a very important part of Christian’s repertoire and he has recently sung Förster Das Schlaue Füchslein for the Wiener Kammeroper. His other recent operatic projects have included Ubalde Armide Gluck at New Israeli Opera, the title role in The Weather Man by Paul Clarke/John Binias for Opera North, Testo Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda Monteverdi & Father Die Sieben Todsünden Weill for Lautten Compagney at Opera Potsdam, David & Jonathas Charpentier and Le Roi in Lully’s Thésée for Les Arts Florissants, Béatrice et Bénédict Berlioz at Opéra Comique, Harlequin Ariadne auf Naxos R. Strauss for the Orchestre de Picardie and Melisso Alcina for the Händel-Festspiele, Halle. Christian is also an experienced recitalist. He has made his debut at the Wigmore Hall as part of the “Continental Britons” series, the Purcell Room, the Linbury Theatre at the Royal Opera House, St. John’s Smith Square and the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Frick Collection in New York, the Salon d’Honneur in Paris, Opera Lille, the Jewish Museum in Vienna (under the auspices of the Wiener Festwochen), Pollok House in Glasgow, and The Crucible in Sheffield as part of the Music In The Round concert series. His recordings include the Weill Requiem on Nimbus (recorded at the 2006 Lucerne Festival), cantatas by Stölzel, as well as the “Continental Britons” on Nimbus, both released in 2004 to wide critical acclaim and Albeniz’ Henry Clifford with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Madrid for DECCA. As a treble soloist, he recorded Bach cantatas and the B Minor Mass with Harnoncourt and Parrott. Christian holds a Masters degree in Musicology from Royal Holloway College, University of London.
